Old West Side has remained a lifelong favorite for Ann Arbor residents because it has so much to offer: Adjacent to downtown and shops, shops and dining are just a few blocks away and the University of Michigan is just a few more. The neighborhood lies between 7th Street, Pauline, Huron and Ashley around its perimeter. Residents here love to walk to their local YMCA which borders the neighborhood on Washington St.
Architectural features here reflect a wide array of influences with something for everyone; mansard and gabled roofs, craftsman-style entryways, colorfully painted Victorian front porches, and the list goes on. Most of the homes here are single family detached residences with many of them dating back to the early 1900s, and over the years some of these homes were divided up into duplex/triplexes. Because of the neighborhood's popularity there is also newer construction, lofts and town homes particularly adjacent to downtown.
The Old West Side has several of Ann Arbor's historic homes and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places (you may see the white placards displayed on the front porches of the historic homes here).
The Old West Side abuts Huron St where residents can walk right into West Park. If you haven't walked or biked through West Park, you should. It used to house an amphitheater with live music events, however it has been closed recently for renovation.
